BUFFALO – Several law enforcement officers from Orleans County plan to attend the funeral on Wednesday morning for Buffalo Police K-9 Officer Craig E. Lehner, who died Oct. 13 in an underwater training exercise.

The Orleans County Sheriff’s Office will have seven or eight members at the funeral, including Sheriff Randy Bower, Undersheriff Chris Bourke, K-9 Handler Jeff Cole and several road patrol deputies.

“We want to show our support,” Bower said this morning. “It’s not about us. It’s about his family and the Buffalo Police.”

Nine officers from Albion and one from the Holley Police Department will be there.

Medina Lt. Todd Draper also plans to attend the funeral. Medina Police Chief Chad Kenward said the department wants to its support for the Buffalo Police Department and Lehner’s family.

Lehner’s body was recovered on Oct. 18, five days later after an exhaustive search of the Niagara River.

Buffalo police expect 5,000 to 10,000 law enforcement officers from across the United States and Canada to attend the funeral at the KeyBank Center.
