Local athletes place high at sectionals

Albion High sophomore Chanyce Powell placed second in the triple jump (36-10 1/2) and fifth in the long jump at the Section VI Division 2 (small schools) championships on Saturday.

Aleah Foos also placed fourth in the 100 hurdles for the Purple Eagles in a school record time of :16.05.

Medina/Lyndonville senior Matt Cochrane placed second in the triple jump (43-8) and 5th in the 400.

Mustangs freshman Jalin Cooper placed second in the 100 (:11.44).

Barker had Casey Webb place second in the pentathlon, Caitlyn Mason third in the triple jump and sixth in the long jump, Gabriella Clare fourth in the 400 hurdles, Kelsi Flegal fourth in the 200 and Jack Hopkins fifth in the 3000 steeplechase.

Other top Niagara-Orleans League finishers included Akron’s Margo Henley who was second in the steeplechase and Wilson’s Zach Sarratori who was second in the long jump and third in the 100.

In the Section V small schools championships, Holley’s Martin Beadle placed third in the 800 and Kendall’s Hannah Ulmen fourth in the pole vault.
