Lions best Purple Eagles in tuneup test

Tuning up for next week’s sectional playoffs, Albion dropped a 9-2 decision to visiting Lockport this afternoon in a non league baseball game.

Lockport took the lead for good by scoring four times in the second inning on just one hit. The Lions later scored three times in the fifth on three hits, a walk and a wild pitch.

Albion, which got runners to second and third in the first inning with no outs but couldn’t capitalize, finally got on the scoreboard in the third frame on an RBI single by John Warne.

The Purple Eagles other run came home in the seventh on a single by Aaron Burnside.

Warne had two hits on the day as Noah Preston, JJ Downs and Trey Hart also all had hits for the Purple Eagles.

Five players shared in the pitching during for Albion including Connor Barleben, Downs, Austin Loyd, Evan Pappalardo and Andy Ashworth.

Albion, which is seeded No. 2 for the Section VI Class A2 playoffs, will host No. 7 Maryvale in the quarterfinals at 5 p.m. Tuesday.
