Status of league in question for Medina and Roy-Hart Midget teams
Celebrating its 75th season, the Lockport Midget League is experiencing a problem that is being shared by other area youth leagues – a shortage of players and teams.
To date the Lockport Midget A League, which is for players in the 17 to 20 age group, has only three teams – Medina, Roy-Hart and Lockport – in the lineup while the Midget B League, which is for 13 to 16 year old players, has just two teams from Roy-Hart and one from Medina so far with Lockport listed as a question mark.
The situation is similar to that being faced by both the Medina Youth Baseball League and the Albion Midget League. The Medina League is again this year combining with the Roy-Hart League for scheduling games while the Albion League has added a team from Holley for the first time.
The Lockport Midget League, which originally consisted mainly of Lockport teams, has in recent years been comprised mainly of teams from Niagara-Orleans League school districts.
The league season is scheduled for approximately 20 games including the playoffs.
Anyone with questions or seeking more information on the league can contact A League President Mario Hernandez (716-628-5002) or B League President Dave Yourdon (716-434-2606).
