League diamond action begins this week

Niagara-Orleans League softball competition will get underway on Wednesday with Albion at Barker, defending champion Roy-Hart at Akron and Newfane at Wilson, all at 4:45 p.m. Medina, which has the bye on Wednesday, will open at Albion on Friday.

The Genesee Region League baseball and softball seasons will likewise get underway on Wednesday with both Lyndonville teams opening on the road and Holley hosting rival Kendall in softball.

The N-O League baseball openers are scheduled for Monday April 17.

The N-O tennis season, which was unable to open last week due to bad weather, will get going beginning on Monday when Medina hosts Albion at 4 p.m.

Baseball competition this week will be highlighted by a pair of interesting games on Monday as Roy-Hart will face Olean at St. Bonaventure University and Albion will entertain Holley whose coach is Purple Eagles alum John Warne. A four year starter at catcher during his scholastic days at Albion, he helped lead the Purple Eagles to three straight N-O titles from his sophomore to senior years.
