Law enforcement warns of scam with callers seeking Social Security numbers
Press Release, State Police
The New York State Police advise the public to never give your Social Security or any other private information over the phone.
If you receive a phone call and the caller identifies themselves as a member of the DEA (Drug Enforcement Administration) advising you that your Social Security number is being suspended, do not give any information including your Social Security number. This is a scam.
The DEA and other law enforcement agencies have no affiliation with Social Security matters.
