Late surge powers RAC cagers past Kendall

Pulling away down the stretch, Rochester Academy Charter posted an 80-70 victory over host Kendall this afternoon in a non league boys basketball game.

Leading by a narrow two point, 53-51, margin at the three-quarter mark, RAC outpointed Kendall 27-19 in the final stanza to claim the win.

Jevonny Brown led RAC with a game high 21 points as Eric Kalumbwe added 14 and Damien Grant 13. Kalumbwe and Grant also both grabbed off 12 rebounds.

Brandon Miller scored 19 to lead Kendall as Mickey Gardner had 17, Nate Warters 14 and Collin Lewis 9. Miller also had 5 blocks, 4 rebounds and 4 assists; Gardner 5 rebounds and 3 blocks; Waters 5 assists and John Rath 6 assists.

Miller scored 10 quick points in the opening quarter to help Kendall grab a 20-18 lead.

Gardner later tallied 10 in the third period to help the Eagles stay within two, 53-51, heading into the final period.

RAC held a slender 34-33 lead at the half.

Kendall next visits Lyndonville at 7 p.m. Tuesday for a Genesee Region League game.
