Snapping a season long five game losing streak, Lew-Port scored a touchdown in the final minute to nip Albion 19-18 in a B2 Division contest this evening at Albion.

Quarterback Mason Bonito scored the game winning touchdown for the Lancers with just 53 seconds remaining. Two pass interference penalties against Albion and a big 21 yard pass completion from Bonito to Jake Quarantillo keyed the drive.

Albion did put together one last ditch drive but the comeback bid ended at the Lew-Port 15 as time expired.

The Purple Eagles had jumped out to an early 12-0 lead as Cameron Thomas returned the opening kickoff 85 yards for a touchdown and Cencere Lowe broke loose on a 59 yard TD run with seven minutes to go in the second quarter.

Lew-Port though got right back in the game as Bonito hooked up with Liam Timkey on a 60 yard touchdown pass play with two minutes to go in the opening half as the extra point kick cut the Albion lead to 12-7. A Purple Eagles lost fumble at the Albion 43 set up that scoring opportunity.

Keeping the momentum, the Lancers rallied into a 13-12 lead late in the third quarter on a 1 yard touchdown run by Bonito. Two Albion penalties kept that Lancers drive going.

Albion regained the lead for what proved to be the last time at 18-13 on an 18 yard touchdown run by Lowe with 4:43 to go in the fourth quarter. A big 37 yard pass completion from quarterback Blake Preston to Thomas down to the Lew-Port 18 highlighted the drive. Preston came up with a clutch pass interception deep in Albion territory to get the Purple Eagles possession for that TD drive.

However, the last lead change of the evening belonged to Lew-Port as Bonito’s two-yard TD plunge with just 53 seconds remaining gave the Lancers their first win of the season.

Albion, which next hosts Lake Shore for Homecoming on October 13, is now 1-4 in the division and 2-4 overall.
