Senior group leads Mustangs soccer squad

Led by a large group of 10 seniors, Medina/Lyndonvllle will tune up for the upcoming Niagara-Orleans League soccer season by facing Pavilion at 4:30 p.m. Thursday at Lyndonville.

The Mustangs will then host Wilson in the N-O opener on September 8 at 6:30 p.m. at Vets Park.

The Mustangs senior contingent includes goalie Zach Fike, defenders Jack Whipple, Cole Seefeldt, Mohammad Mohimeer and Aidan Owczarczak along with midfielders Sam Kingsbury, Evan Harris, Zaric Boyce, Aiden Burczyk  and forward Roman Heinsker.

Fike earned first team N-O All-League honors last season and Whipple was a second team honoree.

Seefeldt is the Mustangs top returning scorer after tallying 16 goals and 11 assists last fall.

The Mustangs also return experience in the junior trio of forward  Jackson Moreland and midfielders Mason Moreland and Mason Nicholson.

We lost quite a bit of offense but we’ve got a good core group back that has played together for a long time,” said Coach Steve Luksch. “Our defense is really strong so we will be tough to score on. We will just have to find some creative ways to score.”

The Mustangs graduation losses included first team N-O honorees Nate Dillenbeck (23 goals), Casey Winiecki (5 goals); and Russ Stephens; second team selection AJ Seefeldt along with Honorable Mention picks Dan Mandujano (7 goals), Alex Barry and Anthony Moule.
