Photos by Cheryl Wertman – The inaugural Fred Large Memorial Wrestling Tournament got underway this morning at Lyndonville with over a dozen schools competing including Holley-Kendall and Medina. Early round action is shown here on three mats in the high school gym. Three more mats are also in use in the Middle School gym which is named in honor of Large who organized Lyndonville’s wrestling program in the early 1960’s. He coached for 20 years guiding the Tigers to no less than nine Genesee Region League and two Section V titles while compiling over 250 career wins. At right his daughter, Robin Large Boyle, who did the scorekeeping for her dad, looks over a folder full of articles from his coaching days. The tourney continues throughout the day with champions to be crowned in 15 weight classes.
