Wrestlers from 16 schools will be competing in Lyndonville’s 5th annual Fred Large Memorial Tournament on Saturday beginning at 9 a.m.

In addition to honoring the memory of long time Coach Fred Large, who organized the Tigers wrestling program, the tournament will also continue a special tradition of holding a Toy and Gift Card Drive to benefit inpatient families on the Oncology floor at Golisano’s Children’s Hospital in Rochester and to raise awareness of childhood cancer.

All toy, gift card and monetary donations made by fans attending the tournament will go directly to those needy families at Golisano’s.

The cause has a special meaning for Lyndonville Co-Coach Joey Suhr whose daughter was diagnosed with a malignant brain tumor in 2016.

Along with the Toy Drive, wrestlers who reach the finals will have the option of wearing a cancer awareness singlet which will be in yellow and gray to represent childhood cancer and brain cancer.

The teams participating in the tournament include Albion, Medina, Holley-Kendall, Roy-Hart/Barker, Akron, Wilson, Byron-Bergen/Elba, CSAT, East Rochester, Gilead, North Rose-Wolcott, Pavilion/York, Wayne, Williamson and Warsaw.
