A huge first quarter scoring surge powered Elba to a 68-37 victory over host Barker this evening in a non league boys basketball game.

John Hocmuth poured in 14 of his game high 30 points in the decisive first period to spark Elba out to a commanding 18 point lead

Nathan Luckman scored 15 to lead Barker as Randall Wasnock added 8, Kyle Secore 5, Jacob Arnold 4, Michale Snell and Devon Mangan 2 and Derek Uschold 1.

Barker did grab a brief 6-2 lead at the outset after threes by Luckman and Secore.

However, Elba answered right back with a marathon run of 22 straight points to take control. Hocmuth netted 12, including 9 straight at one point, during that run which also included threes by Pflaumer and Dillon as the Lancers raced out to a 24-6 advantage.

Elba’s John Hocmuth (55), who scored 30 points, goes high to grab a rebound over Barker’s Shawn Callaghan.

Elba went on to lead by 21, 39-18, at the half and by 24, 54-30, after three-quarters. Hocmuth netted 13 of the Lancers 15 points in the third quarter.

Elba is now 2-0 and Barker 1-1 on the young season.
