HOLLEY – Converting three costly early turnovers into touchdowns, Elba/Byron-Bergen went on to defeat Holley 41-6 this afternoon in the first Genesee Region League contest on the Hawks new field.

Elba/Byron-Bergen capitalized on two lost fumbles and an interception to score touchdowns on runs of 9 yards by Brandon Naylor, 1 yard by quarterback Garrett Chapell and a 5 yard pass from Chapell to Steve Truax to open up a 22-0 lead on the rainy afternoon before the second quarter was a minute old.

Naylor and Truax both had two touchdowns on the day as the Lancers went on to lead by margins of 28-0 at the half and 34-0 after three quarters.

Holley avoided the shut out when Zach Day scored on a two yard run with just 25 seconds to go in the fourth quarter. A 20 yard run by Clarence Moyer set up the tally.

Early in the game, the Hawks twice got moving a bit offensively, first on a 17 yard pass from quarterback Corey Winter to Zach Vaccarelli and then on an 11 yard run by Winter but on both occasions a turnover quickly halted the drive.

The loss drops Holley to 0-3 while Elba/Byron-Bergen improves to 2-1.
