Lakemen score N-O win over Purple Eagles

Wilson evened its Niagara-Orleans League boys basketball record at 2-2 with a 50-43 win at Albion this evening.
Blake Martin scored a game high 23 points to lead Wilson, including 12 in the final period to help lock up the win for the Lakemen. Aidan Neumann added 13, Ryan Hough 6, Ryan Messing and Jack Mahar 3 and Shamus George 2.
Kyle Radder led Albion with 11 as Blake Preston and Isaiah Riley 9, Wesley Olles 7, Seth Krenning 3 and John Eibl and Xavier Byrd 2 each.
Albion jumped out to a 9-0 lead at the outset but Wilson rallied right back into the lead by answering with a 12-0 run including 7 by Martin.
The Purple Eagles pulled back even for what proved to be the last time at 12-12 as Preston closed the period with a three.
Wilson used a 14-5 second period scoring edge, including 7 by Neumann, to open up a nine point, 26-17 advantage at the half.
Getting seven third period points by Riley, Albion cut the deficit a bit to five, 33-28 at the three-quarter mark.
Down by eight, 44-36, Albion battled back on baskets by Olles and Radder to cut the deficit to 44-40. The Purple Eagles finally closed to within three, 46-43, on a three by Olles with just 19 seconds to go but could get no closer.
Wilson finally put a lock on the win when Martin made four clutch free throws in the final 16 seconds. Earlier in the period he scored 8 points on four layups to help keep the Lakemen up by as much as 8, 44-36.
The loss drops Albion to 1-3 in N-O action.
In a Genesee Region League game Oakfield-Alabama defeated host Lyndonville 82-23.

Girls Basketball
Wilson 66, Albion 22
Improving to 4-0, defending champion Wilson downed visiting Albion 66-22 as Peyton McInnis, Bella Thrush and Emily Phillips each had 13 and Rian Faery 12.
Madison Hughson scored 8 and Julia Knight 7 for Albion.
Breaking away from a 10-10 deadlock, Wilson took charge by outscoring Albion 20-0 in the second period to open up a commanding 30-10 advantage.
