Lakemen knock Mustangs from share of N-O lead; Rams nip Purple Eagles in double OT

Completing a home-and-home season series sweep, Wilson defeated visiting Medina 64-55 this evening knocking the defending champion Mustangs from a share of the Niagara-Orleans League boys basketball lead.

Steve Frerichs scored 19, Mac Musall 18 and Nate Fox 14 to lead the way for Wilson which also downed the Mustangs 55-48 earlier in the season at Medina.

Jalin Cooper took game high scoring honors with 24 for Medina as Izaiah Rhim added 11 and Mason Lewis 7.

Leading by a narrow 16-15 margin after one quarter, Wilson extended its advantage to 34-26 at the half and to 49-38 at the three-quarter mark.

The loss drops Medina to 7-2 and vaults Newfane (8-1), a 69-37 victor over Barker, into sole possession of the N-O lead.

The Mustangs next host the Panthers in a must win contest for first place at 6:30 p.m. Friday.

Kyle DeVoogel and Max Weber each scored 13 points,  Umaro Ibrahim and Chad Dunbar 10 and Connor Hill and Brandon Gross 8 to lead the balanced attack for Newfane in the 69-37 win over Barker.

Nick Brandt scored 10 and Preston Harris and Dan Ober 6 each for Barker.

Leading 28-22 at the half, Newfane extended its lead to 47-33 at the three-quarter mark and then used a big 22-4 fourth period scoring surge to lock up the win.

Roy-Hart 82, Albion 80 (2OT)
Roy-Hart outlasted host Albion 82-80 in a double overtime marathon.

Charlie Bruning scored a free throw to pull Roy-Hart even at the end of the first overtime period and then had a key rebound basket late in the second overtime to earn the Rams the win.

The contest was deadlocked 28-28 at half-time and 66-66 at the end of regulation time.

Jake Bruning scored 42 to lead Roy-Hart (4-6) as Charlie Bruning had 19, Noah Kindron 12 and Blake Halstead 9.

Bryce Pritchard tallied 24, Deyonci Farley 22 and Demetrius Gardner 15 for Albion which slips to 5-5 in N-O action.
