Lake effect snow advisory issued for Orleans

A lake-effect snow advisory has been issued by the National Weather Service for Orleans and Monroe counties from 1 p.m. this afternoon until 1 a.m. tonight.

About 2 to 4 inches is expected in the most persistent snow bands. There also will be westerly winds from 20 to 30 miles per hour with gusts up to 40 mph, producing blowing and drifting snow, the Weather Service said.

An extreme cold alert also has been issued for Orleans County for today when the wind chill will fall to 3 below zero. The high for today is forecast for 17 with a low of 6 degrees.
