Lafayette ousts Medina/Lyndonville
Unable to overcome a two goal half-time deficit, No. 7 seed Medina/Lyndonville dropped a 4-2 decision to No. 6 Lafayette in the semifinals of the Section VI Class B2 boys soccer playoffs this evening at Sweet Home.
Medina/Lyndonville did erase an early 1-0 deficit with a quick two goal scoring burst midway through the first half. Elian Gonzalez tied the game with a goal at 19:37 as he looped a corner kick shot right into the net. Vassilios Bitsas then gave the Mustangs a 2-1 lead with a goal just two minutes later on a rebound off an initial direct kick shot by Matt Hess.
However, the Mustangs’ lead lasted less than three minutes as Lafayette answered right back with a quick two goal scoring burst to regain the lead for good. A goal by Jama Din retied the contest at the 14:58 mark and Theeovie Louzaia followed up with a tally at 12:46 for a 3-2 lead.
Lafayette made it 4-2 five minutes later on a goal by Muhammad Faires.
Neither team could then find the net in the second half.
Lafeyette advances to the finals with a 10-6 record while Medina/Lyndonville winds up the season at 12-7.
In a Class B1 semifinal, No. 2 East Aurora blanked No. 3 Newfane 4-0.
