Lafayette nips Roy-Hart in OT in B2 contest

No. 7 Lafayette nipped No. 10 Roy-Hart 58-55 in overtime this evening in a Section VI Class B2 pre quarterfinal contest.

Roy-Hart had built up a 17 point, 36-19, half-time advantage as Jacob Bruning scored 16, Brendon Hess 14 and DJ Davis 6 on a pair of threes.

However, Lafayette cut the deficit to seven, 49-42, at the three-quarter mark and then used a 13-4 fourth period scoring edge to rally into a 53-53 tie and send the contest into overtime.

Keeping the momentum, Lafayette scored the first five points of the overtime period, including a key three, to take the lead for good.

Hess finished with 22 and Bruning 20.

In another B2 contest, No. 6 Wilson defeated visiting No. 11 Oracle 57-43.

Also in Class B2, No. 8 Gowanda downed No. 9 JFK 61-52 to advance to a quarterfinal round meeting at top seeded Medina at 7 p.m. Friday.

In a B1 pre quarterfinal, No. 5 Dunkirk defeated No. 12 Albion 78-39.

Kory Reynolds scored 13 and Tommy Mattison 11 for Albion which trailed 41-15 at the half.
