Lady Tigers win to advance to D1 finals
Earning a spot in the finals for the fifth straight year, top seeded Lyndonville bested No. 4 Fillmore 10-7 this evening in the semifinals of the Section V Class D1 softball playoffs at Brockport High School.
Lyndonville jumped out to an early 3-0 lead scoring once in the first on an error following a single by Anna Lewis, once in the second on a wild pitch following a single by Cassie Boyce and a double by winning pitcher Makenzie Muck and once in the third on a single by Miranda Lembcke following another hit by Anna Lewis and a walk.
Fillmore did score 4 times in the top of the fourth on 2 errors, a sacrifice fly, a fielders choice play and a single to take it’s only lead at 4-3.
However, Lyndonville answered right back with a pair of runs in the home half of the fourth on 2 errors to regain the lead for good at 5-4. A leadoff double by Muck and a walk set up the threat.
The Lady Tigers then scored five times in what proved to be the decisive fifth frame on 3 wild pitches, a fielders choice play and an RBI double by Anna Lewis, the only hit of the frame. An error, a walk and a hit batter loaded the bases to set up the threat.
That uprising proved to be a key one as Fillmore rallied for 3 runs in the top of the seventh on 2 walks and 3 singles to slice the deficit to 10-7 with no outs.
Lyndonville though got out of the jam on a fly-out to Anna Lewis in left, a groundout back to Muck and a ground out to Aubrey Lewis at shortstop to quell the uprising and put a lock on the win.
Improving to 17-2, Lyndonville will next face the winner of the Alfred-Almond vs. York semi in the D1 championship game at 4 p.m. Saturday at Houghton College.
