Lady Tigers romp in sectional opener

Pounding out 19 hits, No. 3 seed Lyndonville romped to a 18-0 victory over visiting No. 6 Avoca this afternoon in the quarterfinals of the Section VI Class D1 playoffs.

Home runs by Rebekah Hoffee and Aubrey Lewis along with 3 doubles by winning pitcher Maddy Boyle, 2 doubles and a triple by Morgan Hungerford and 2 doubles by Kaitlyn Albone highlighted the Lyndonville attack.

Boyle and Hungerford both went 4 for 4 on the day as Albone had 3 hits and Hoffee, Lewis and Haley Wetherbee 2 each. Albone drove in a total of 5 runs and Lewis 4.

In the circle, Boyle scattered 5 hits and struck out 7.

Leading 2-0, Lyndonville broke the contest open with a big 8 run second inning. Doubles by Boyle, Hungerford and Lewis highlighted that uprising.

The Lady Tigers tacked on 4 runs in both the third and fourth frames. Hoffee had a home run and Hungerford a triple in the third. Boyle, Albone and Hungerford then all had doubles in the fourth.

Improving to 14-4, Lyndonville will next face the winner of the No. 10 Hammondsport vs. No. 2 Romulus game in the semifinals on Tuesday.
