Lady Tigers romp in sectional opener

Roaring out to a 13-0 lead in the first two innings, top seeded Lyndonville went on to down No. 16 Hinsdale 16-0 in the opening round of the Section V Class D softball tournament this evening at Vets Park.
Lyndonville scored 5 quick runs in the first inning without the benefit of a hit on three wild pitches, an error and an RBI sacrifice by Brooke Robinson.
The Lady Tigers then broke the contest wide open by erupting for 8 runs in the second inning highlighted by a three-run home run by Alexa Robinson an RBI triple by winning pitcher Arnie Sturtevant and an RBI single by Brooke Robinson.
Emma Freas also had a two-run single for the Lady Tigers in the third inning.
In the circle, Sturtevant allowed only 1 hit and struck out 7.
Lyndonville will now face a very familiar foe in the quarterfinals as the Lady Tigers will take on No. 8 Notre Dame which ousted No. 9 Pavilion 15-1 this evening.
The quarterfinal game is now scheduled for 3 p.m. Saturday at Barker but could be switched to Lyndonville if the Lady Tigers field is playable.
Lyndonville downed Notre Dame twice during the Genesee Region League season by scores of 4-1 and 8-1.
The Lady Tigers bring an 18-2 record into the quarterfinals.
Lyndonville pitcher Arnie Sturtevant also helped the Lady Tigers out at the plate by banging out a run producing triple.
