Lady Tigers roar in sectional opener

One goal late in the first half and another at the outset of the second earned No. 8 Lyndonville a 2-0 victory over No. 9 H-A-C this afternoon in the opening round of the Section V Class DD girls soccer playoffs.

Masson Bayne scored what proved to be the game winning goal for Lyndonville with 10 minutes to go in the first half off an assist from Madison Gardepe.

Katie Albone then added an insurance tally three minutes into the second half off a corner by Gardepe.

“They didn’t quit. They kept pressuring and good things came finally,” said Lyndonville coach Jim O’Connor.

Jenna Castricone earned the shut out in goal for the Lady Tigers as Rebekah Hoffee helped to anchor the defense and Autumn Nesbitt the midfield area.

Improving to 7-10, Lyndonville next visits top seeded Jasper-Troupsburg (15-1) Saturday in the Class DD quarterfinals.

City Honors 5, Medina 3
BUFFALO – Top seeded City Honors scored two goals in overtime to edge past No. 16 Medina this afternoon in a Class B-1 contest.

Taylor Miller scored two goals and Destiny Satkowski one for Medina which was tied 2-2 at the half and 3-3 at the end of regulation.

Roy-Hart 2, daVinci 0
BUFFALO – A goal two minutes into the game by Emma Lindke, off an assist from Amber Villella, sparked No. 12 Roy-Hart to a 2-0 victory over No. 5 daVinci this afternoon.

Allie Sauers added an insurance goal for the Lady Rams in the second half off an assist from Melissa Zakrzewski.

Ashley Bower earned the shut-out in goal.

In Class B-2, No. 2 Wilson blanked No. 15 Salamanca 2-0 and No. 7 Newfane shut out No. 10 Olean 2-0.

Boys Soccer

Holley 1, Cal-Mum 0
CALEDONIA – No. 10 seed Holley nipped No. 10 Caledonia-Mumford 1-0 this evening in the opening round of the Section V Class C-1 playoffs.

Freshman Chris Balys netted the lone goal for Holley at the 24 minute mark of the second half.

Holley next faces No. 2 World of Inquiry at noon Saturday at Franklin High in Rochester.

Medina to host Eden
Seeded No. 2, Medina/Lyndonville will host No. 7 Eden at 3:30 p.m. Thursday at Vets Park in the Section VI Class B-1 quarterfinals. Eden advanced by blanking No. 10 Tonawanda 4-0 on Tuesday.

In Class B-2, No. 10 Wilson upended No. 7 Roy-Hart in a shoot-out Tuesday after the teams had played to a 1-1 tie in double overtime.

Roy-Hart had defeated Wilson twice during the Niagara-Orleans League season by scores of 2-1 and 1-0.

Volleyball

Niagara-Orleans League champion and No. 3 seed Albion will host No. 14 Lake Shore at 6 p.m. Friday in the pre-quarterfinal round of the Section VI Class B volleyball playoffs.

The victor will take on the winner of the No. 11 Maryvale at No. 6 Alden match in the quarterfinals on Oct. 29.

Class C pre-quarterfinal round matches at 6 p.m. on Friday has No. 13 Medina at No. 4 East of Buffalo, No. 10 JFK at No. 7 Roy-Hart, No. 11 Fredonia at No. 6 Wilson and No. 9 Newfane at No. 8 Allegany-Limestone. The winners advance to the quarterfinals on Oct. 29.
