LYNDONVILLE – Points proved hard to come by on both sides as Lyndonville downed Medina 28-21 this afternoon in a non league girls basketball game.

Alyssa Mahnke scored 6 points, Gabby Dusett 5, Abigail Feldman, Jenna Castricone and Chelsea Poler 4, Madison Gardepe 3 and Morgan Hungerford 2 for Lyndonville which is now 1-1 on the young season.

Taylor Miller took game high honors with 9 points and Nicole Blount 6 for Medina which also got 2 each from Molley Gross, Emily Kams and De’Andrea Salone. Gross also grabbed off 10 rebounds.

Medina jumped out to an 8-4 first quarter lead on two baskets by Blount and one each by Miller and Gross.

Lyndonville did rally into an 8-8 tie in the second quarter on a lay-up by Mahnke but Medina regained a 13-8 lead at the half as Miller scored the Mustangs only five points of the period in the final 45 seconds on a bucket and a three-point play.

However, the lid went on the Medina basket throughout the third quarter as Lyndonville used a 9-0 scoring edge to take the lead for good by a 17-13 margin. Castricone hit a three-point shot and Poler added a pair of buckets to led that surge by the Lady Tigers.

Lyndonville maintained the lead throughout the final period as two baskets by Feldman and one each by Dusett and Gardepe helped close out the Lady Tigers victory.

Medina did close to within three twice midway through the stanza, first at 22-19 after buckets by Blount and Miller, and then at 24-21 after a basket by Kams but the Mustangs could get no closer.

The loss drops Medina to 0-3.
