Rebounding from a very slow start, No.10 seed Lyndonville came on strong to defeat No. 7 Alfred-Almond 38-28 this evening in the opening round of the Section V Class D1 girls basketball playoffs at Letchworth.

Morgan Hungerford scored 10, Aubrey Lewis 9 Jasmine Plummer 8 and Rebekah Hoffee 6 to lead the balanced attack for Lyndonville which next visits No. 2 Elba in the quarterfinals on Friday.

Trailing 11-1 after one period, Lyndonville came battling back with a huge 17-4 second period scoring burst to key the come-from-behind victory.

Hungerford scored 5 and Lewis, Plummer and Hoffee 4 each in the decisive second quarter which finished with Lyndonville up 18-15 at the half.

The Lady Tigers went on to increase that advantage to 10, 27-17, after three quarters.

“We started a little slow but then we got going in the second quarter and overall the girls just played a great game,” said Lyndonville Coach Barry Webber.
