Lady Rams nip Lakewomen in N-O opener
Niagara-Orleans League girls basketball action opened with a thriller this evening as Roy-Hart nipped six time defending champion Wilson 44-42 at Wilson.
Trailing 39-25 early in the decisive final period, Roy-Hart outscored Wilson 9-3 down the stretch to claim the narrow victory which snapped Wilson’s lengthy 73 N-O game winning streak.
Lila Brigham made three straight baskets to rally Roy-Hart into a 41-39 lead.
Bella Thrush answered with a three to put Wilson back up for what proved to be the final time at 42-41 with 35 seconds remaining.
Roy-Hart regained the lead for good as Kaitlin Mettler made two pressure free throws with 23 seconds to go for what proved to be the winning points. Brigham added another key free throw to close out the scoring.
Courtney Aquilina scored 14 and Brigham 11 to lead the way for the Lady Rams as Adella Dukes added 7, Kylie McOmber 6, Mettler 4 and Millie Owens 2.
Rowan Simpson scored 12 Thrush 10 and Abbie Faery 7 to pace Wilson.
Roy-Hart grabbed a 14-11 first quarter lead but Wilson rallied to go up 24-22 at the half and 36-33 after three quarters.
