A rash of turnovers down the stretch proved costly as Roy-Hart dropped a 73-67 decision to visiting Cleveland Hill this evening in a non league season opener.

In another non league opener, Medina bowed 48-26 at Oakfield-Alabama.

Roy-Hart used a big 26 point second quarter to open up what looked to be a commanding 18 point, 42-24 halftime advantage. However, Cleve Hill came roaring back down the stretch exploding for 30 points in the decisive final period aided by the rash of R-H turnovers to rally into the 73-67 victory.

Shadymore Newsome scored 13 of her game high 25 points, Aviance Clark 12 of her 18 and Sydney Turley five of her 13 to spearhead Cleve Hill’s big fourth quarter comeback.

Roy-Hart had five players in double figures as Becky Harnish netted 13, Taylor Fry 12, Morgan Jones and Emma Lindke 11 and Kendra Hill 10.

Lindke scored nine points and Hill and Fry six each in the second quarter to lead Roy-Hart’s 26-7 uprising which rallied the Lady Rams from a 17-16 deficit into a 42-24 half-time advantage.

Roy-Hart held a 55-43 lead at the three-quarter mark but the turnover plagued Lady Rams were outscored 30-12 in the decisive final period.

Roy-Hart next hosts the opening round of its tournament on Friday with Nichols vs. Tonawanda at 5:30 p.m. and Bennett vs. Roy-Hart at 7 p.m.

Oakfield-Alabama 48, Medina 26
Molley Gross grabbed off 16 rebounds and Madeline Winters 12 to lead Medina on the boards in the loss at Oakfield.

Emily Kams scored seven points for the Mustang as Winters and Nicole Blount both had five, Gross and Taylor Miller four and Brittany Button one.

Oakfield-Alabama led 11-5 after one quarter, 26-10 at the half and 38-14 at the three-quarter mark.
