Looking to keep the momentum from a 2016 run to the sectional finals, the Barker softball squad is led this season by a group of seven veterans.

That contingent includes seniors Emily Annable and Abby Bachman, who will anchor the infield, junior Kylie Miller a three year starter at catcher, junior pitcher Haylee Muzzillo  and junior Abby Harris in centerfield along with senior outfielders Eadie Fuerch and Cassidy Granchelli.

Muzzillo, who saw some action in the circle last year, takes over the primary duties this spring from graduated first team N-O All-League honoree Erika Moeller.

The Lady Raiders other gradation losses include infielder Mary Rounds, who earned second team N-O All-League honors, and outfielder Courtney Bodine, an Honorable Mention selection.

“With some key holes to fill from graduation the Barker varsity softball team looks to re-tool in a few areas and be competitive again this year. The 2016 team had a magical run to the Class C sectional final last year and we hope to return and move beyond that in 2017,” said Coach Bill Moeller. “We are a young team that may have some growing pains along the way but in the end I know I can count on each and every one of them to give me 100 percent every time they step on the field.”

Barker is scheduled to open the N-O season at Medina on Tuesday.
