Lady Panthers edge past Mustangs

In a tight stretch run battle, Newfane edged past host Medina 59-56 in a Niagara-Orleans League girls basketball game this evening.

Breaking away from a 40-40 deadlock, Newfane opened leads of 46-40 and 54-46 over the first six minutes of the final period. Sienna Bowers scored 6 and Anna Chunco 4 for the Lady Panthers during that stretch.

Medina though came battling back to slice the deficit to just one at 57-56 with 23 seconds to go after a 10-3 run which included threes by Rylee VanNostrand and Stella Poler and a bucket by Honesty Hill. VanNostrand, whose three made it 57-56, scored 11 in the final stanza.

However, Newfane held on as two clutch free throws by Chunco with 14 seconds to go closed out the 59-56 win.

Chunco finished with 29, Mallory Schultz 13 and Bowers 10.

VanNostrand scored 26 and Hill 15 to lead Medina.

Newfane led 18-10 after the first period and 25-23 at the half. Medina rallied into a 38-38 tie at the three-quarter mark after late baskets by Angel Mulcahy, Hill and VanNostrand.

Newfane is now 2-4 and Medina 1-5 in N-O action.

Akron 61, Albion 40
Roaring out to a 34-8 halftime lead Akron went on to down visiting Albion 61-40 as Ashlee Henning scored 18 and Melanie Holtz 11 to lead the way.

Skoi Sanders Smith tallied 9 and Madison Hughson 8 for Albion.

Akron is now 5-1 and Albion 4-2.

Wilson 55, Barker 28
Defending champion Wilson finished the first half of the N-O season at 6-0 with a 55-28 win over Barker as Peyton McInnis scored 21 and Rian Faery 15.

Cole Carnes, Rachel Sutter and Anna Bowerman each scored 6 for Barker which trailed 41-13 at the half.

Roy-Hart 50, CSAT 46
Roy-Hart trimmed CSAT 50-46 in a non league game as Lila Brigham scored 12, Alexis Cacciatore 11 and Juliana Buscarino and Kaitlin Mettler 8 each.

Attica 31, Holley 27
Attica edged Holley 31-27 in a Genesee Region League contest as Madison Robinson led the way with 11.

Alivia Wolf paced Holley with 17.
