Lady Panthers edge past Mustangs; Lady Rams down Purple Eagles

Maintaining a share of first place in the all important loss column, Newfane (5-1) nipped Medina (4-3) 8-7 this afternoon in a sea-saw Niagara-Orleans League softball game at Vets Park.

In other N-O action, Roy-Hart improved to 7-1 with an 18-4 win over Albion (1-6) and defending champion Akron dropped out of a share of first place by splitting a doubleheader with Wilson.  Akron (6-2) won the first game 1-0 and Wilson (2-6) took the second 5-1.

Breaking away from a 6-6 tie, Newfane regained the lead for good by scoring twice in the sixth inning on RBI singles by Olivia Littman and Alexa Littman.

Alexa Littman also had a two-run single to highlight an error aided four run fifth inning which gave the Lady Panthers a 6-4 lead.

Medina briefly retied the contest in the bottom of the fifth on a two-run homer by Ryenn Oliver.

Earlier, the Mustangs jumped out to a 2-0 lead by scoring once in the first on a triple by Destiny Satkowski and an RBI single by Ashlee Howell and once in the third on a double by Satkowski and an RBI single by Alisha Scroger.

Newfane pulled even at 2-2 with a pair of unearned runs in the fourth frame.

Roy-Hart 18, Albion 4
Maddie Fry, Lexi Lovewell and Kayla Brown each had 4 hits and Jayden Townsend and Sam Choate 3 to lead the attack for Roy-Hart.

In the circle, Lovewell, Choate and Ashley Hill combined to hurl a 4 hitter with 8 strikeouts.

Brylie Hapeman had 2 hits for Albion.

Roy-Hart erupted for 5 quick runs in the first inning as Hill had a two-run single.

A two-run home run by Choate then highlighted a three-run second inning.

The Lady Rams also scored 5 times in the third inning as Townsend had a two-run single and in the fourth as Choate banged out a two-run double.
