Lady Lancers blitz past Mustangs

Roaring out to a commanding 24 point first quarter lead, Elba coasted to an 89-24 victory over host Medina this evening in a non league girls basketball game.

Adrianna Long scored 20, Taylor Augello 14, Leah Bezon 13 and Maddie Muehlig 12 to lead the Elba attack as Brynn Walczk added 9, Lauryn Engle 7, Kelly Mickey 6, Dakota Brinkman 5 and Madison Howard 3.

Camri King had 6, Kharise Johnson 4, Maddie Williams, Jarielys Flores-Medina, Madia Osby and Tyesha Robinson 3 each and Sarah Sones 2 for Medina.

Medina did grab a 2-0 lead at the outset on a layup by King but it was all Elba after that.

Muehlig answered right back with back-to-back threes igniting a huge 26-2 Elba scoring explosion over the rest of the period.  Long tallied 10, including two three’s, during that stretch which ended with the Lady Lancers in command by a whopping 28-4 margin.

The Elba advantage soared to 42, 50-8, at the half as Howard hit a half court shot at the buzzer.

Now at 2-0, the Lady Lancers led by 59, 73-16, at the three-quarter mark as Bezon hit three threes in the third stanza.

The game was the season opener for Medina which next hosts Nardin at 6:30 p.m. Thursday in another non league contest.

Notre Dame 54, Albion 35

Callie McCulley poured in 33 points to power Notre Dame to a 54-35 win over visiting Albion in another non league game.

Brylie Hapeman scored 9 and Kendall Derisley 8 for Albion which trailed 28-17 at the half.
