Lady Hawks win softball opener

Scoring four times in the third inning to build up an early 6-1 lead, Holley went on to defeat visiting C.G. Finney 13-4 this afternoon in the Lady Hawks non league season opener.

Anna Brasted had three hits, including a key double in the third inning, drove in three runs and scored three times for Holley which also got two hits by Nicole Mauro.

Sarah Wharram pitched a two hitter with 10 strikeouts for the Lady Hawks.

Holley next hosts Byron-Bergen Thursday in the Genesee Region League opener.

In one Niagara-Orleans League game, Wilson pushed across a run in the top of the seventh inning to nip host Barker 6-5.

Tayler DeVole, who had Wilson’s only hit, scored the winning run. She also registered a clutch game ending strikeout in the bottom of the seventh inning.

Brooke Bodine had two hits for Barker while in the circle, Erika Moeller registered seven strikeouts.

Newfane, Akron split

Newfane earned a split with Akron this afternoon in a Niagara-Orleans League season opening track meet held at Barker.

Newfane won the boys meet 93-48 and Akron took the girls competition 101-36.

The Newfane boys were led by a trio of individual event double winners as Stone Geise won the 110 hurdles and pole vault, Kyle Burdick the 100 and triple jump and Pietro Corti the 200 and long jump.
