Lady Hawks prep for soccer season under new coach
With new Coach Renee Wolf at the helm, the Holley High girls varsity soccer team is prepping for the upcoming Genesee Region League season.
Wolf, who served as Holley’s JV coach last year, takes over the reins from longtime Lady Hawks mentor Jill Mann Klotzbach. She is being assisted by Holley graduate Emily Troup.
“I expect we’ll do well,” said Wolf. “We have veteran players throughout the field so it should be a fun and exciting season.”
Seniors Bailey Papaj (defense/midfield), Brianna VanAmeron (midfield), Taylor DeSimone (midfield/forward), Sam Barniak (midfield) and Jade Underwood (goalie) head Holley’s veteran contingent which also includes juniors Heather Winkley (defense/midfield), Riley Sanger (midfield/forward), Anne Jewell (defense), Courtney Winkley (midfield), Kristen Nenni (defense/midfield) and sophomore Ryley O’Mara (midfield).
Sanger is the Lady Hawks top returning point getter having tallied four goals and five assists last season.
The Lady Hawks did lose 10 players to graduation including goalie Nicole Blackburn, defender Claudia Passarell and midfielders Sarah Wharram, Nicole Mauro and Lexi Reyngoudt. Mauro and Passarell both earned G-R All-Star honors. Another G-R All-Star honoree, Luca Fahmer, has transferred out of the district.
Holley went 7-3-5 in G-R competition and 8-5-5 overall last fall.
The Lady Hawks are scheduled to open G-R competition at home on Sept. 4 against Byron-Bergen.
