Lady Eagles win season opener

Goals just before and after half-time sparked the Kendall girls soccer team to a 3-0 victory over host Greece Odyssey today in the Lady Eagles non league season opener.

Maya Rutland scored what proved to be the game winner at the 38 minute mark of the first half off an assist from Jenna LoSapio to break a 0-0 deadlock.

Maya Rutland then quickly doubled Kendall’s advantage by scoring again just six minutes into the second half as Coralee Freitag earned the assist.

Taylor Rutland rounded out the Kendall scoring with a late goal off an assist from Maya Rutland.

Jenna Jacob made 13 saves to earn the shutout in goal.

“We played much better in the second half,” said Kendall Coach Pam Beres. “We had some real strong competition today so it was a good opener for us.”

The Lady Eagles next begin defense of their Genesee Region League title on Tuesday at Attica (4:30 p.m.).
