Lady Eagles top Kearney for tourney title

A two goal scoring burst in the final six minutes earned the host Lady Eagles a 3-1 victory over Bishop Kearney this afternoon in the championship game of the Kendall soccer tournament.

Breaking away from a 1-1 deadlock, Kendall regained the lead for good when tourney MVP Hailee Mitchell scored on a penalty kick with just 6:45 remaining. (Click here to see a video of her game-winning goal.)

The Lady Eagles then put a lock on the tourney title when Madison Jacob scored with only 3:20 to go clicking on a nifty shot from a tough angle.

Kendall also scored the game’s first goal as Alezya Brown tallied on s header with 8:47 remaining in the first half.

Bishop Kearney though battled back to knot the contest when Kaia Goode scored with 6:23 to go in the opening half.

Kendall goalie Kate Pearson came up with three key saves in the first half and two more in the second.

Now at 3-0 overall, Kendall next visits Alexander on Monday for a Genesee Region League game.
