Lady Eagles break loose for Class D1 semi win

Breakaway goals keyed the offense and the defense posted a shutout as No. 2 seed defending champion Kendall blanked No. 3 Alfred-Almond 4-0 in the semifinals of the Section V Class D1 girls soccer playoffs this evening at Caledonia-Mumford.

Improving to 15-3, Kendall will next face the winner of the No. 1 Fillmore vs. No. 4 Arkport/Canasseraga semi in the Class D1 championship game on Saturday at a site and time to be determined.

Kendall jumped out to an early 2-0 lead as Madison Jacob scored on a breakaway at 31:23 off an assist from Hailee Mitchell and just six minutes later Alezya Brown broke in for a goal at 25:40 as T’Mia Kitchings earned the assist.

“That was huge,” said Kendall Coach Pam Barchet of the Lady Eagles jumping out to a quick lead.

Up 2-0 at the half, Kendall put a lock on the victory when Lizzy Woodams scored on a rebound shot just 2:17 into the second half off an assist from Kitchings.

Kailie Regan then rounded out the Lady Eagles scoring when she tallied on a breakaway with 20:04 to go off an assist from Brown.

Katie Pearson made 2 saves to earn the shutout in goal for the Lady Eagles.

Alfred-Almond finishes the season at 12-6.
