Lady Bulldogs win Barker softball tourney
The host Lady Bulldogs took top honors at the Barker softball tournament by edging Oakfield-Alabama 5-3 in the championship game this afternoon.
Breaking away from a 2-2 deadlock, Barker scored the decisive three runs in the sixth inning on a double by Madelina Pavlock, singles by Peyton Bradley and Madyson Flint and a pair of errors. Flint was named the tourney’s MVP.
Barker’s other two runs came in the third inning as Kaylee Stoll and Lexi Brazzell had key singles.
Raine Denny accounted for Oakfield-Alabama’s runs with a two-run homer in the fifth inning and an RBI single in the seventh.
In the semifinals Barker trimmed Elba 7-5.
Brazzell had a two-run single to highlight a four run second inning for Barker. Flint later had a two-run double and Bradley an RBI double in the fourth frame for what proved to be the decisive three runs.
Brazzell had a total of 3 hits and Pavlock 2.
Oakfield-Alabama advanced to the finals by downing Lyndonville 6-1 in the other semifinal.
Lyndonville rebounded to defeat Elba 17-11 in the consolation game as Addison Dillenbeck had 4 hits including a double and two triples, Arnie Sturtevant 3 hits including a double and home run and Braelynn Dillenbeck 3 hits including a double.
