Knocked out transformer leaves part of Medina without power

MEDINA – The fierce winds on Wednesday evening broke two poles at the Olde Pickle Factory, and one of them held a transformer.

With that transformer out, about 500 National Grid customers have been without power on the west side of the village, according to National Grid.

It may be another six to eight hours until power is restored, said Jonathan Higgins, a captain with the Medina Fire Department.

A National Grid linesman told him the company has been slowed in getting a new pole set up because of the hard sandstone underground.
