Kenmore East tops Medina in opener

Long range shooting early in the final period helped key Kenmore East to a 50-39 win over visiting Medina in the non league boys basketball season opener for both teams this evening.

Leading by a narrow two point, 31-29, margin, Ken East opened the decisive final period with an 11-3 run, including three key threes, to open up a 10 point, 42-32 lead and Medina could get no closer than five after that.

Preston Woodworth led Medina with 12 as Cole Callard added 9, Jerrell Nealy 7, Justin Pitts 5. Trevon Shine 4 and Elijah Doxey 2.

Ken East jumped out to a 15-6 lead but Medina rallied back to within two once in the second quarter on a basket by Shine and three times in the third period on tallies by Woodworth and Nealy but could never pull even.

Medina next visits Lancaster at 7 p.m. Friday in another non league contest.

Notre Dame 71, Barker 46
Leading 33-21 at the half, Notre Dame used a big 28 point third period scoring surge to lock up a 71-46 non league win over Barker.

Ryan Fitzpatrick scored 20, including three threes in the decisive third period, to lead the way for Notre Dame.

Luey Castro scored 12, Isaac Monaco 11 and Logan Murrell 10 for Barker.

Oakfield-Alabama 58, Holley 57
Oakfield-Alabama nipped host Holley 58-57 on a rare four point play by Gavin Armbrewster at the buzzer.

Vinny Golisano scored 19, Destin Kuyal 13 and Josh Silpoch 9 for Holley.

Holley led 26-23 at the half.
