Snapping a season opening three game losing streak, Kendall earned victory No. 1 on the young season by rallying for a 51-37 win over visiting Wheatland-Chili this evening in a Genesee Region League contest.

In another G-R game, Elba trimmed host Lyndonville 62-56 in a matchup of the two teams which battled for the G-R Division 2 title last year.

Trailing 26-21 at the half, Kendall rallied to outpoint W-C 30-11 in the second half to earn the victory.

“We changed up defenses in the second half and that the was big key for us,” said Kendall Coach Matt Zimmer.

The Eagles used a 12-4 third period surge to rally into a 33-30 lead at the three-quarter mark and then locked up the win with an 18-7 fourth quarter run.

Nate Warters scored 8, James Longrod 7, Brandon Miller 6 and Collin Lewis 5 to spark the Eagles in the second half.

“It was a good balanced effort,” said Zimmer.

Warters and Miller both finished with 14 points, Longrod 9 and Lewis 8. Miller also had 13 rebounds, 5 blocks and 4 assists and Waters 4 steals and 3 assists.

Elba 62, Lyndonville 56
A late rally fell just short as Lyndonville dropped a 62-56 decision to Elba.

The Tigers closed the gap to just two with 17 seconds remaining on a pair of free throws by Jacob Hoffee but could not pull even as the Lancers used some sharp free throw shooting (10 of 10 in the period) to lock up the win.

Corey Hydock scored 20 and Eddie Schildt 15 to lead Lyndonville as Hoffee and Zach Johnson both had 9.

The loss could be a costly one for the Tigers as Schildt suffered a knee injury late in the game.

Elba was led by a quartet of double figure scorers as Henry Pflaumer tallied 15, Collin O’Halloran 14, Jordan Miller 11 and Jon Boyce 10.
