A pair of five run innings keyed No. 5 seed Kendall to a 12-9 victory over No. 12 York in the opening round of the Section V Class C2 softball tournament this afternoon at Greece Odyssey.

Trailing 4-0, Kendall got right back in the game by scoring five runs in the home half of the first inning on an RBI single by Maggie Zastrow, a fielders choice play, a passed ball and a two run error. Teagan Shaw and Inez Stangler also both had hits during the big rally.

Later, Kendall rallied from a 9-7 deficit to score five runs in the bottom of the fifth inning on a two-run double by Izzy D’Agostino and a three-run double by Brooke Rodas to regain the lead for good at 12-9.

Shaw also had a two-run single in the second inning to give the Lady Eagles a 7-4 lead.

Shaw finished with 3 hits and D’Agostino 2.

Kendall will next face the winner of the No. 4 Bolivar-Richburg vs. No. 13 Perry game in the quarterfinals on Tuesday.
