In a down to the wire thriller, No. 3 seed Kendall edged past No. 2 Marion 3-2 this afternoon in the semifinal round of the Section V tennis tournament at Webster Thomas.

A come-from-behind three set victory by Kendall’s first doubles team of Michael Nundy and Alyssa Hering provided the margin of victory for the Eagles. The Kendall duo dropped the first set, rallied for a 7-5 win in the second and then took the deciding third set 6-2 after a rain delay.

The Eagles other points were earned by Riley Iqbal, who scored a straight set win at second singles, and by Anthony Washington, who came from behind in both sets to claim the victory at third singles.

“I’m really proud of the kids,” said Kendall Coach Dan Boyd. “They really did a great job. This is a real big win for them.”

Kendall, which is now at 11-5, will now face top seeded East Rochester for the Class C title on Thursday at Churchville-Chili.
