Kendall High sophomore Evan Gaesser has earned a spot on the Section V golf team which will compete in the state championships in early June at Cornell.

Gaesser tied for fifth at the super sectionals held today at Oak Hill with a score of 153 to gain a berth on the Section V state tourney team.

Earlier this week, Gaesser earned top Class C honors at the Section V tournament.

Unable to build on an early lead, No. 14 seed Kendall dropped a narrow 4-2 decision at No. 11 Canisteo-Greenwood this afternoon in the Section V Class C2 playoffs.

Kendall jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead in the second inning on a two-run single by Shauna Ricker as hits by Olivia Welch and Kacey Menge set up the opportunity.

However, Kendall was unable to cross home plate again as the Lady Eagles left runners stranded at second and third in the top of the fifth. Singles by Nicole Browe and Chelsea Wright set up that scoring chance.

Breaking away from a 2-2 deadlock, Canisteo-Greenwaood scored what proved to be the deciding two runs in the home half of the fifth on a single, an error and a fielders choice play.
