Kendall girls upend top seed York in shootout

No. 9 seed Kendall upended top seeded York 3-2 in a shootout this afternoon in a Section V Class C2 girls soccer quarterfinal round playoff game at York.

Kendall outscored York 4-3 in the shootout to claim the victory on goals by T’Mia Kitchings, Grace Levett, Julie Coble and Grace Robinson.

York had grabbed a 1-0 lead in the first half but Kendall rallied in the second half to first knot the score on a goal by Alezya Brown and then to take a 2-1 lead on a tally by Brooke Rodas off an assist from Ava Quintern with just two minutes to go.

However, York retied the game at 2-2 with a goal with just 55 seconds to go to send the contest into overtime.

Neither team could scored in the two 10 minute overtime periods or in a pair of five minute OT periods setting the stage for the deciding shootout.

The win sends Kendall into Tuesday’s semifinal round against No. 4 HAC which downed No. 5 Keshequa 2-1.

Class C1

Williamson 2, Holley 1 OT

No. 4 Williamson nipped visiting No.5 Holley 2-1 in overtime. Samantha Bates scored Holley’s goal.

Section VI Class B1
East Aurora 2, Albion 1
No. 2 seed East Aurora nipped visiting No. 7 Albion in the quarterfinals of the Section VI Class B1 girls soccer playoffs.

Abby Scanlan scored Albion’s goal off an assist from Nikki Creasey on a direct kick.

Sydney Mulka made 13 saves in goal for the Purple Eagles.

Section VI Class B2

Roy-Hart 4, Newfane 0

No. 3 seed Roy-Hart blanked visiting No. 11 Newfane in a Class B2 quarterfinal as Kara Choate had two goals and Kaitlyn Mettler and Allie Trombley one each.

Roy-Hart will next face No. 7 Southwestern in the semifinals on Tuesday at Williamsville North. Southwestern upended No. 2 Allegany-Limestone 2-1.

In another B2 quarterfinal, Akron defeated Olmsted 1-0 on a goal by Lauren Wagner.
