Kendall girls rally to nip Lyndonville

Photo by Cheryl Wertman – Taylor Rutland scored what proved to be the game winning basket for Kendall in the narrow win over visiting Lyndonvilel this evening.

Kendall rallied late to nip visiting Lyndonville 28-27 this evening in a Genesee Region League girls basketball game.

Trailing 25-24, Kendall rallied into the lead for good at 27-25 on a three point shot by Taylor Rutland with just over a minute to go.

The Lady Eagles got the ball back after a Lyndonville turnover with 9 seconds to go and Lizzie Rath made one of two free throws to up the Kendall lead to 28-25 with three seconds remaining.

Lyndonville made two of three free throw attempts with no time remaining to make the final 28-27.

Taylor ReQua had 9 points, 10 rebounds and 10 steals to lead the way for Kendall.

Rath finished with 6 points, Taylor Rutland 5, Maya Rutland and Bridget Miller 4 each for the Lady Eagles.

Aubrey Lewis had 12 points, Makenzie Muck 6 and Jasmine Plummer 5 for Lyndonville.

Lyndonville, which was blanked from the field in the fourth quarter, led 12-7 after one period, 21-13 at the half and 25-20 at the three-quarter mark.

“It’s a huge win for us,” said Kendall Coach Jeff Parizek whose Lady Eagles improve to 1-1 in the league and 2-3 overall. “We just played tenacious defense.”

Lyndonville is now 0-2 in the league and 1-4 overall.
