It was an overtime thriller as Kendall nipped rival Holley 34-33 in a Genesee Region League girls basketball game this evening at Holley.
Trailing 30-28, Holley sent the game into overtime deadlocked at 30-30 on late free throws by Jailyn Bishop and Samantha Bates, the later coming with just 1.6 seconds remaining.
Kendall went up 32-30 at the outset of the four minute overtime period on a basket by Brooke Rodas.
However, Holley answered with a basket and a free throw by Bates to regain the lead for what proved to be the last time at 33-32 as the Lady Hawks could not find the range again from the field or the line.
The last basket and the victory though belonged to Kendall as Alea Barrett’s lone bucket of the evening with 1:27 remaining, which put the Lady Eagles back on top for good at 34-33, proved to be the game winner.
Danielle Offhaus led Kendall with 10 points as Ava LaMay had 8, Rodas 7, Stella Kwiatek 5 and Barrett and Addison Kludt 2 each.
Alivia Wolf led Holley with 10 as Bates added 9, Zoey Wolf 8, Bishop 4 and Emma Brady 2.
Up 13-11 after a very low scoring first half, Holley used a 12-7 third period scoring edge to increase the advantage to seven at 25-18. Alivia Wolf had a three and a two, Zoey Wolf a pair of baskets and Bates a three during that stretch.
However, Kendall came battling back with a 12-3 scoring surge over the first seven and a half minutes of the final period to rally into a 30-28 lead.
A basket by Rodas with 25 seconds remaining capped off that surge which included three baskets by Offhaus and one each by Kwiatek and Kludt, a tally which knotted the contest at 28-28.
A pair of late Holley free throws sent the contest into overtime where the Lady Eagles made a low scoring 4-3 edge in points just enough to claim the win.
