An underclassmen dominated No. 4 seeded Kendall girls soccer squad trimmed No. 2 Fillmore 2-1 this afternoon to capture the Section V Class D1 championship at Perry.

Junior Hailee Mitchell scored both goals for Kendall as all of the scoring came in the first half.

Junior Katherien Pearson made 9 saves in goal for Kendall in the first half and freshman Kailie Regan 6 stops in the second half.

“We’re a young team and they’ve really exceeded expectations,” said Coach Pam Barchet. “They work so hard. They won every ball and played smart. They really stepped up.”

The sectional championship is the first since 2015 for the Lady Eagles and the 11th in the program’s history.

Kendall now faces the winner of the D1 title contest, either Andover or Hinsdale, in the Section V Class D state qualifier on Tuesday at a site and time to be determined.

The Lady Eagles improve to 14-5 while Fillmore finishes at 17-1.
