Kendall downs Albion in tourney semifinal

A pair of first half goals earned the host Lady Eagles a 2-0 victory over Albion this evening in the semifinals of the Kendall soccer tournament.

Kiersten Rodas scored what proved to be the game winning goal for Kendall at 23:06 of the opening half off a corner kick by Brianna Wakefield. It was the Lady Eagles fourth corner opportunity in the first 17 minutes.

Kendall’s Hailee Mitchell and Albion’s Claire Squicciarini battle for the ball.

Wakefield then scored a big insurance goal with 9:38 to go in the half on a short range shot as Lizzy Woodams earned the assist.

Kailie Regan earned the shutout in goal for the Lady Eagles.

Kendall is now 2-0 and Albion 2-1 on the young season.

Kendall will now face Bishop Kearney in the championship game at 3 p.m. Saturday.

Albion will take on York in the consolation contest at 1 p.m.

Bishop Kearney defeated York 4-2 in the other semifinal.

Byron-Bergen 2, Holley 0
A quick two goal scoring burst in the second half keyed Byron-Bergen to a 2-0 win over Holley in a Genesee Region League game.

Kendall Phillips and Juliana Amesbury scored the goals for the Lady Bees which came just three minutes apart.

Albion’s Paige Derisley and Kendall’s Lizzy Woodams battle for control of the ball as Leah Pritchard moves in for the Purple Eagles..
