Kendall downs Albion in tourney opener

Roaring out to a commanding 4-0 half-time advantage, the host Lady Eagles went on to defeat Albion 5-0 this evening in the opening round of the Kendall girls soccer tournament.

Kendall will face York in the championship game at 5 p.m. Saturday while Albion will take on Bishop Kearney in the consolation game at 3 p.m. York defeated Kearney 5-1 in the other semifinal.

Albion goalie Isabella Prest makes a save against a shot by Kendall’s Megan Hardenbrook as Purple Eagle defenders Alyce Miller and Vivian Rivers come in to help.

Kendall jumped out to a quick 1-0 lead when Coralee Freitag scored just seven minutes in off an assist from Taylor ReQua.

Lady Eagles goalie Jenna Jacob then made the big defensive play of the night with a key diving stop of an Albion shot and the Lady Eagles offense was quick to capitalize.

Maya Rutland scored just two minutes later at 29:35 on a line drive shot to give Kendall a 2-0 lead.

The Lady Eagles advantage soared to 4-0 at the half on a pair of late goals by ReQua who tallied at 7:28 on a breakaway and again at the 4:19 mark. Rutland and Jenna LoSapio earned the assists on those goals.

Megan Hardenbrook netted Kendall’s lone goal in the second half off an assist from ReQua.

Kendall improves to 4-0 and Albion slips to 1-4.
