Kendall cagers win sectional opener over familiar foe

Jumping out to a 10-0 lead at the outset, No. 5 Kendall went on to defeat visiting Genesee Region League foe No. 12 Alexander 54-37 this evening in the opening round of the Section V Class C2 boys basketball playoffs.

Will Condo scored 16, Mookie Nauden 13 and Evan Gaesser 10 to lead the offense for Kendall. Jacob Ramsdell added 7 and Colton Breslawski and Nick Manners 4 each for the Eagles.

Ramsdell also had 10 rebounds and 5 blocks and Nauden 11 rebounds and 3 steals, Breslawski also grabbed off 5 rebounds while Condo and Manners each had 4.

A three by Condo, along with back-to-back jumpers by Nauden and Breslawski, vaulted Kendall out to the quick 10-0 lead.

Up 14-8 at the end of the first period, the Eagles stretched the advantage to 18, 26-8, after opening the second quarter with a 12-0 run. Gaesser hit two threes to highlight that uprising which also included a layup by Nauden and a jumper by Breslawski.

Kendall maintained an 18 point, 31-13, advantage at the half after a layup by Gaesser and a three-point play by Condo to close he period.

Improving to 15-5, Kendall next visits No. 4 Dundee in the quarterfinals on Friday.

The teams had split a pair of meetings during the G-R season. Alexander took the first 66-55 in overtime and Kendall the rematch 44-38 to close out the regular season.

Sodus 50, Holley 35

Building up a 24-14 halftime advantage No. 7 Sodus went on to defeat visiting No. 10 Holley 50-35 in a Section V Class C1 opening round contest.

Josh Porter scored 12 for Holley as Joey DeFelice and Dylan Hillabush both netted 8 and Zach Vaccarelli 6.

JFK 50, Roy-Hart 39

No. 11 JFK grabbed leads of 15-2 after one quarter and 28-11 at the half in route to posting a 50-39 victory over visiting No. 14 Roy-Hart in the opening round of the Section VI Class B2 playoffs.

Chris Anderson scored 13 and Ben Maynard 10 for Roy-Hart.

Newfane 64, Eden 42

No. 11 Newfane ousted visiting No. 14 Eden 64-42 in the opening round of the Section VI Class B1 playoffs to advance to a Wednesday contest at No. 6 Tonawanda. The winner of that game will then visit No. 3 Medina on Friday.

Sam Watkins scored 18, Tyler Jordan 14, Kyle Burdick 13 and Kyle Guerriera 9 for Newfane which led 15-2 after one quarter, 26-14 at the half and 49-26 at the three-quarter mark.
