WEBSTER – Pressure and perseverance paid off as top seed Kendall nipped No. 5 Marion 1-0 in a double overtime thriller this evening in the Section V Class CC semifinals at Webster Schroeder High School.

Nicole Browe scored off a corner by Taylor ReQua with just 53 seconds to go in the second overtime to earn Kendall the thrilling victory and a trip to Friday’s Class CC title contest against Caledonia-Mumford.

“I’m really proud of them. They showed a lot of heart,” Kendall Coach Pam Beres said. “I thought we dominated play but it was one that could have gone either way.”

Kendall put tremendous pressure on over the last 15 minutes of regulation time including four straight corner kicks and one direct kick but could not dent the Marion net.

Marion then had the edge in the first overtime but Kendall weathered that and regained the momentum in the second overtime finally connecting for the game winner in the game’s 99th minute on Browe’s 14th goal of the season off ReQua’s 10th assist of the campaign.

“It was a great game,” Beres said. “Our kids kept working and I’m really proud of their effort.”
